Ongoing and Completed Initiatives

Summary of the consortium’s experiences

The Transformative and Resilience Initiatives for Climate Change (TRIC) demonstrates expertise in the following interconnected areas, fostering a holistic and impactful approach to community development, climate action, and sustainability:

Protection

o Climate change disproportionately impacts children, leading to displacement, food insecurity, and increased risks of exploitation. Therefore, the consortium actively works safeguarding children and vulnerable populations from climate-related risks and ensuring their well-being through targeted interventions; ensuring that emergency response plans prioritize children’s needs.

o Programs focusing on education, psychosocial support, and climate resilience training for young people have been implemented to safeguard children’s rights in climate-vulnerable area.

Agriculture and Food security:

o The consortium has championed climate-resilient by promoting sustainable, climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security and mitigate environmental challenges. It has strengthened food security and livelihoods for farming communities and facilitates access to climate adaptation training for farmers, empowering them with knowledge on soil conservation, organic farming, and alternative livelihood strategies.

Education and Youth Development

o Empowering youth with education, skills, and leadership opportunities to actively contribute to climate solutions and community advancement.
o Advocating for equitable education access while integrating climate awareness and environmental sustainability into curricula.

Livelihood and WASH

o Climate change threatens economic stability and traditional livelihoods. Access to clean water and sanitation is increasingly threatened by climate change and remains critical. At TRIC, we work on strengthening livelihoods through sustainable economic opportunities and improving access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to enhance community health.

Environment and Botanical gardens

o The consortium prioritizes ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation to combat climate change by developing initiatives to conserve natural resources, restore ecosystems, and raise awareness of environmental sustainability.
o Botanical gardens play a crucial role in environmental conservation, education, and research. The consortium integrates botanical gardening into its climate action strategies by establishing botanical gardens that serve as living laboratories for sustainable plant cultivation and biodiversity preservation; protecting and propagating native and drought-resistant plant species to enhance ecosystem resilience and encouraging local participation in urban greening, tree nurseries, and medicinal plant gardens to promote environmental awareness and economic opportunities.

Gender empowerment and Women’s rights

o Women play a critical role in climate adaptation, particularly in agriculture and natural resource management. Hence, promoting gender equality, empowering women in climate resilience initiatives, and advocating for their rights.
o The TRIC promotes women-led climate initiatives by enhancing access to financial resources, land ownership, and leadership opportunities in climate governance.
o Through targeted capacity-building programs, women have been equipped with skills in sustainable farming, eco-friendly entrepreneurship, and climate advocacy, enabling them to drive change in their communities.

Capacity Building and Researches

o Building the capacity of institutions and communities is essential for long-term resilience. The consortium provides trainings for policymakers, local leaders, and civil society organizations on climate governance; Strengthened institutions in climate risk management and emergency response. By enhancing skills and knowledge, the consortium has ensured sustainable, community-driven climate solutions.
o Conducting research and assessments to inform decisions and building institutional and community capacity for effective climate action and Policy formations. Developing technological innovations for climate resilience (e.g., climate-smart farming tools, early warning systems). Collaborating with academic institutions to advance climate research.

Peace and Justice

o Climate change has been a driver of conflict, particularly in resource-scarce areas where competition over grazing and water is intensifying. The consortium has worked to foster peacebuilding efforts by advocating for peaceful coexistence, conflict resolution, and climate justice to ensure equity and fairness in resource management; promoting conflict-sensitive climate policies, and community dialogue and integrating climate justice principles into its advocacy efforts
