Climate Action

Ecosystems

Climate change has profoundly impacted Somalia’s ecosystems, exacerbating droughts and desertification, leading to the loss of vegetation, soil erosion, and water scarcity, which significantly degrade grasslands, wetlands, and farmlands. Extreme weather events, such as cyclones and floods, severely damage coastal and marine ecosystems, including coral reefs and mangroves, while rising sea levels and warming oceans disrupt marine biodiversity. Shifting rainfall patterns and increasing temperatures have resulted in biodiversity loss, with many native species at risk of extinction, further aggravated by overexploitation of natural resources like deforestation and overgrazing. Additionally, invasive species are thriving due to climate variability, further threatening agricultural and natural ecosystems, creating a cycle of ecological degradation that demands urgent interventions such as reforestation, water management, sustainable agriculture, and community-driven conservation efforts to restore balance and resilience.

Science-Driven Solutions - Solar-powered irrigation systems for drought-prone regions.

Community Empowerment - By conducting training farmers in climate-smart techniques annually and women-led disaster response teams in IDP camps.

Sustainable Policy Frameworks - We partner with organizations and other bodies that align local actions with advancing lives agenda.
